The fact is that because all conditioned phenomena (including our physical body) are impermanent and hence liable to decay and dissolution, therefore it cannot be that our liberated consciousness would find its way back into a body that had long (even centuries) gone into disuse.
Christian resurrection occurs when we come into the knowledge of the truth and by taming the indomitable beast within us with all his dark and blind passions. Once the body ceases to function, the soul's liberation becomes finalized. That is my hope and expectation as a Christian. And I believe being wholly at one with God in spirit form is far more marvelous and sublime than being forever trapped in this 'beggarly' matter. Resurrection in the body is not only a ridiculous notion but also completely useless. I for my part do not buy into your interpretation of the scriptures as pointing to bodily resurrection. And you should know that in the earliest days of the church, there were as many views on what it meant when Christ rose from the dead as there were 'christianities' You can't just arbitrarily pick out the one that ultimately won out, suppressed the others and pass it off as the only true custodian of Christ's teachings. The list of writings you quote from were scarcely the only ones in existence, you should know by now that documents claiming to be gospels were far larger and more encompassing than the narrow four.
And furthermore, Christ did not have to rise again with his body. The part that made him human perished into dust along with the rest of physical phenomena, it is his divinity that soared into the highest heaven and I think that's what the early disciples had witnessed; Christ's strong spiritual presence after his physical demise.
God Bless you all,
Br. Leo,
PS. consider this scripture: "His disciples said to him, 'when will the resurrection of the dead happen, and when will the new world come?' Jesus said to them, 'what you look forward to has already come, but you do not recognize it'" (Gospel of Thomas, 51)Somphishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10588623792303635014noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6287311563659480799.post-84727183151671725872013-01-22T22:23:46.462-05:002013-01-22T22:23:46.462-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Somphishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10588623792303635014noreply@blogger.com
